COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,231 Monday. There are now 163 active cases in the county, and seven people are hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 1,038 of the 1,231 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Thirty Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 21 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,775,527 Sunday to 7,792,816 Monday; these numbers include 3,075,077 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 37,686,296 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 214,985 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 250 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 231,471 Sunday to 232,747 Monday. There have been 3,773 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of three overnight. The state currently has 1,109 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 206,471 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered: Bertie (659), Beaufort (1,231), Bladen (983), Brunswick (1,890), Carteret (905), Camden (128), Chowan (458), Columbus (1,507), Craven (1,970), Currituck (207); Dare (305), Duplin (2,583), Edgecombe (1,622), Gates (157), Greene (768), Halifax (1,160), Hertford (825), Hyde (149), Jones (172), Lenoir (1,142), Martin (552), New Hanover (4,696), Northampton (507), Onslow (2,645), Pamlico (294), Pasquotank (794), Pender (1,133), Perquimans (213), Pitt (5,507), Sampson (2,438), Tyrrell (118), Washington (227), Wayne (3,855) and Wilson (2,511). Guilford (9,863), Mecklenburg (30,502) and Wake (19,160) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 17,038 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 1,231 positives. Since March, 67 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
