COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,354 Wednesday. There are now 200 active cases in the county, and eight people are hospitalized, with one person on a ventilator, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 1,114 of the 1,354 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,253,557 Tuesday to 8,312,109 Wednesday; these numbers include 3,295,426 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 41,053,723 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 221,694 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 951 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 248,750 Tuesday to 250,592 Wednesday. There have been 4,032 deaths in the state attributed to the virus. The state currently has 1,219 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 218,541 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday numbered (the database used for county statistics had not been update since Tuesday’s report): Bertie (695), Beaufort (1,354), Bladen (1,050), Brunswick (2,046), Carteret (1,009), Camden (133), Chowan (493), Columbus (1,591), Craven (2,170), Currituck (219); Dare (341), Duplin (2,673), Edgecombe (1,816), Gates (162), Greene (882), Halifax (1,285), Hertford (844), Hyde (174), Jones (173), Lenoir (1,302), Martin (600), New Hanover (4,937), Northampton (526), Onslow (2,982), Pamlico (301), Pasquotank (825), Pender (1,202), Perquimans (230), Pitt (5,859), Sampson (2,563), Tyrrell (127), Washington (238), Wayne (4,200) and Wilson (2,737). Durham (8,631), Guilford (10,571), Mecklenburg (32,038) and Wake (19,952) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 18,586 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 1,354 positives. Since March, 73 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
