COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,456 Tuesday. There are now 117 active cases in the county, and eight people are hospitalized, according to the Tuesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department. One of the hospitalized is on a ventilator.

According to the update, 1,292 of the 1,456 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-seven Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 35 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 9,254,287 Monday to 9,344,717 Tuesday; these numbers include 3,674,981 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 47,235,585 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 232,173 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 910 overnight.

Tuesday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 280,377, with 4,457 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 67 overnight. There are currently 1,175 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday numbered: Bertie (740), Beaufort (1,456), Bladen (1,106), Brunswick (2,271), Carteret (1,232), Camden (144), Chowan (544), Columbus (1,796), Craven (2,465), Currituck (232); Dare (396), Duplin (2,886), Edgecombe (2,094), Gates (170), Greene (980), Halifax (1,511), Hertford (870), Hyde (177), Jones (203), Lenoir (1,556), Martin (680), New Hanover (5,517), Northampton (594), Onslow (3,615), Pamlico (331), Pasquotank (908), Pender (1,470), Perquimans (264), Pitt (6,372), Sampson (2,896), Tyrrell (132), Washington (273), Wayne (4,804) and Wilson (3,210). Durham (9,369), Guilford (12,173), Mecklenburg (35,076) and Wake (22,120) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 19,601 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuesday, with 1,456 positives. Since March, 77 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Beaufort County’s percentage of deaths per total cases is 3.2%.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
