Lois Stiles Loope, 89, of Chocowinity, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021, in Greenville, North Carolina.  

Lois was born on March 5, 1932, in the Chestnut Hill community of Jefferson County, Tennessee. She graduated from Maury High School in Dandridge in 1950 and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Knoxville in 1953. She worked as an RN at St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital/Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, for 38 years, retiring in 1991. 

Lois was a devout Methodist and a lifelong member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church; she practiced Christ’s commandment of unconditional love for others throughout her long life and was a gentle and happy soul.  

She is predeceased by her parents, Orie Stiles and Helen Arline McAndrew Stiles; her husband of fifty years, Hollis Loope; her sister, Mary Ruth Stiles McGhee; niece, Ruth Ann McGhee Lewis; and nephew, Barry Wayne McGhee.  Survivors include her son, David R. Loope, and daughter-in-law, Charlene Hodges Loope, both of Chocowinity, NC; her grandson, Alexander Loope, of Davidson, NC; nephew Brent McGhee of Cosby, TN; and nieces Madelyn and Jaclyn Lewis of Cosby, TN. 

The family will hold a call for convenience for Lois at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11.  Interment will follow on March 12 at 12:00 noon at Hills Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dandridge, TN, with the Rev. John Clark officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.
