Mrs. Laura Jane Miller Adams, age 82, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Thursday March 18, 2021 at Vidant Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

A private graveside funeral will be held at the Adams Family Cemetery in Chocowinity.  The service will be officiated by Pastor Greg Barmer.  

Mrs. Adams was born in Beaufort County on August 23, 1938, daughter of the late Leslie Earl Miller, Sr., and the late Lula Mae Respass Miller.  She was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School.  On January 6, 1961 she married Lonnie Earl Adams who preceded her in death on January 6, 2018.  Mrs. Adams was a Beaufort County Deputy Sheriff for nineteen years and a Beaufort County Magistrate for nine years.  She was a member of the Pamlico Seniors Club, Honeys of Beaufort County Red Hat Society, Beaufort County Democratic Party, First Baptist Church of Washington, and the Ruth Sunday School Class at her church.

Survivors include two daughters: Elizabeth Adams-Ange of Chocowinity and Debora Adams Davenport (Doug) of Kitty Hawk; three sisters: Louise Cowell of Washington, Hazel Winslow of Wilson and Joyce Gardner of Washington; two grandchildren: Amie Elizabeth Lewis of Chocowinity and Lindsay Lewis Temple (Landon) of Bath and three great grandchildren: Jaden and Alex Spain and Brody Temple.  Mrs. Adams was predeceased, along with her parents and husband by a brother: Leslie Earl Miller, Jr., and a sister-in-law: Janice F. Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 113 North Harvey Street, Washington, NC 27889.
