Richard Arlen Swindell, 87, died Saturday, May 8, 2021, at his residence in Swan Quarter.
Mr. Arlen was born in Hyde County on August 13, 1933, to the late Marvin Albert and Georgia Carawan Swindell. He was married to the former Ella Cahoon who survives.
He was a member of Soule United Methodist Church and of the Swan Quarter Atlantic Masonic Lodge No. 294 A.F. & A.M.
From an early age, Mr. Arlen worked on the family farm keeping everything going and in good working condition. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren. He was an inventor that had a deep interest in anything old and family history.
He loved to fish and provided guiding services at Mattamuskeet Lake for several years. He honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed sharing the fruits of his garden with his friends and family members.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am., Tuesday, May 11, 2021, in Soule Cemetery. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.
