Mr. Gilbert Murray Evett, Sr., age 87, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday June 2, 2021 at his home.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM Friday June 4, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Washington and was officiated by Dr. Greg Barmer. A private family burial in Pamlico Memorial Gardens will be held.

Mr. Evett was born in Beaufort County on January 6, 1934 to the late Leon Thomas Evett and Emma Padgett Evett. He was a graduate of Washington High School. Mr. Evett was a broker for GAE Enterprises in Washington. In May 1984 he married Alma Dean Stack. He enjoyed golfing, boating, coaching basketball, football and baseball for Wilson Christian School, Terra Ceia Christian School and Bath Middle School. In the mid 1940’s, he played Triple A baseball. Mr. Evett was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Alma S. Evett of the home, a son, Gilbert Evett, Jr. and wife Renee of Wilson, three stepchildren, Jim House and wife Carol of Raleigh, Dana Luciani and husband Vince of Charlotte, Stephen Goadhouse and wife Ursula of Crozet, VA, and ten grandchildren.

The family received friends Friday June 4, 2021 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Washington.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey Street, Washington, NC 27889.
