The Chocowinity 16U All-Stars split their first two games on the opening day of the Babe Ruth softball World Series in Jensen Beach, Fl.
The local team roared out of the gate with 11 hits and standout pitching as they routed their opponent from Buena Vista, Fl. 15-1 in the first game.
Londyn Keech led the offense with three hits, while Mariah Massey, Taylor Willard and Hannah Black each had two. Black’s first hit was a home run in the first inning.
The All-Stars added 12 stolen bases, including five from Bella Boykin.
Jaden Clark allowed just two hits in five innings to earn the pitching win. She struck out eight and didn’t walk anyone.
“We started on the right foot,” coach Reed Clark said. “We hit well, pitched well and ran the bases well. We fell behind early in the second game and couldn’t get key hits, but we feel like we can compete with the teams here.”
The All-Stars scored twice in the first inning against South Texas, but gave up six runs in the bottom half in an 11-6 loss.
Clark and Sam Braddy combined for four of the All-Stars seven hits.
Pool play continues Thursday at 4 pm against the Wisconsin Fastpitch Academy that went 2-0 on Wednesday.
“They played very well today and will present a challenge,” Clark said. “We’ll be fine if we play our game and come up with some big hits.”
