Albert Cleve Everson Sr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his adoring family on October 23, 2021. He was born on May 12, 1939 to Gotha Thomas Everson and Debra Nelson Everson in Beaufort County, North Carolina. He was part of a large family having 11 siblings. On August 29, 1960 he married Catherine Jones and they had three children Darlene Everson Lannon (Brian), Laurie Everson Stinson (William) and Albert “Butch” Everson Jr. (Paige Stewart). Albert has eight grandchildren Kestrel Lannon McCorkle (Evan), Stuart Lannon (Mandy), Tyler Lannon, Bailey Stinson, Adam Lannon, Aaron Stinson, Jared Everson, and Zachary Everson. He also has three great-grandchildren Orrin, Angus, and Oona McCorkle. Albert is preceded in death by his parents and siblings James Edmond Everson, Alton Clemins Everson, Don Mitchell Everson, William Thomas Everson, Audrey Rae Everson Woolard, Alice Iredell Everson Merriman, Lola Odell Everson, Lillie Mae Everson, and Josephine Everson. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine Jones Everson, his sisters Joyce Ann Everson and Faye Carol Everson Ambrose, and his loyal yet annoying cat Bandit.
Albert was a resident of Beaufort County and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. He was a passionate and competitive game player; loving Dominoes, Rook, & Canasta. Albert was a talented artist, attentive gardener, avid bird watcher, and a great lover of Western movies. He was a notorious prankster who’s love language was picking on friends and loved ones. Albert also had a reputation for his inability to tell a joke without laughing through the punchline. And of course, he never met a stranger, often accosting unsuspecting bystanders wherever he went.
Albert was a 31-year veteran of the North Carolina National Guard and a lifetime member of the National Guard Association. He was awarded the Outstanding Soldier of the Year Award in 1979 for the North Carolina National Guard. Albert was an ardent community servant; serving as a Scout Master and a member of the Order of the Arrow, Little League Baseball Coach, President of the Edenton/Chowan Band Parents Association, Founding Member of the Edenton/Chowan Peanut Festival, Chairman of the Edenton/Chowan Planning Board, Charter Member of the Perquimans County Rescue Squad, President of the Advance Ruritan Club, Vice President of the Beaufort County Genealogy Society, Member of the Beaufort County Grange, and a devout member of the Old Ford Church of Christ.
