The National Weather Service has “increased confidence” that a developing storm system will affect eastern North Carolina Sunday into Monday.
“It appears that this system will initially bring a mix of snow / sleet / freezing rain to Beaufort County beginning around 1 a.m. Sunday morning,” Beaufort County Emergency Services Deputy Director Chris Newkirk said in an email. “This precipitation is expected to transition to rain between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. as temperatures rise above freezing.”
Newkirk said the county hopes to provide a full briefing with details about all potential impacts in Friday’s update.
The NWS said the best chance for light accumulation of a wintry mix will be across the Coastal Plain.
“Coastal counties may see a brief period of sleet or snow before quickly transitioning to rain as temperatures warm, but little or no accumulation expected near the coast.,” the NWS said in a briefing.
