Dr. Hamilton Alden “Al” Sager, Jr. Ph.D., age 89, a resident of Cypress Landing, Chocowinity, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Dr. Sager was born in Oceanside, N.Y. on April 17, 1932. He was the son of the late Hamilton Alden Sager, Sr. and Myrtle Lotus Sager. Dr. Sager was a distinguished professor at Nassau Community College for many years and an author of several bestselling computer science textbooks.
Earlier in his career he worked for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation as an Aerospace Project Engineer where he designed critical aircraft components including work on the Apollo Lunar Module, the first spacecraft to ever land humans on the Moon. He was an avid golfer and shared his passion for the sport, mentoring youth as a golf instructor for local organizations. Dr. Sager had a passion for fancy sports cars and had owned quite a few over the years.
Dr. Sager is survived by his wife, Nancy Brewster Sager of the home; daughter, Cynthia Harrington of Gainesville, FL; son, Jeffrey Sager (Patricia) of West Babylon, N.Y.; stepson, James Johnke (Katherine) of Chesapeake, VA; stepdaughter, Susan Anderson (Christopher) of Coventry, R.I.; sister, Patricia Cartmell of Lynbrook, N.Y.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
