Mrs. Barbara Jean Wilkinson Taylor, 86, of Vanceboro, NC passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

The funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 3 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Vanceboro.  Burial will follow in Palmetto Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:45 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Taylor was born on June 28th 1935 in Washington, NC to the late Vernon Wilkinson Sr. and Margaret Everett Waters.  She worked at DuPont for a number of years and later operated Nobles Restaurant for 20 years.  Mrs. Taylor worked and later retired from Craven County Sheriff’s Dept. in 1994.  She attended West Vanceboro Church of God and Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was a member of the Vanceboro Order of the Eastern Star of Vanceboro, NC.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Garland E. Taylor Sr. and a son, Garland E. Taylor Jr. (Woody); great-grandson, Boston Lawrence Johnson; sisters, Connie Waters Broadway, Vickie Waters Foy; brother, Vernon W. Wilkinson Jr.; son-in-law, John L. Dixon Sr.; special friend, Francis Andrews and her faithful fur companion, “Pansy”.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her: daughters, Jean Taylor Wright and husband, Wayne, of Williamston, Tammie Taylor Dixon-Phillips and husband, Jerry, of Vanceboro; grandchildren, Nicole Mitchell, Timothy Alvarez, Derek Taylor, John Dixon and wife, Debra, Amber Smith, and Erika Johnson and husband, Nick; great-grandchildren, Ariel Johnson, Taylor Ambrose, Anna and Bryan Alvarez, Emily Gibble, Bentley Johnson, Owen Dixon, James Taylor, and Bristol and Brailee Johnson; great great-grandaughter, Emberlynn Johnson; sisters, Margie W. Dixon and husband, Billy, Linda W. Fornes, and Judy W. Davenport; brother, Charlie Waters Jr.; sisters-in-laws, Dianne W. Hamrick, Ethel Hudson, Macie Dubey, and Louise Johnson and special nephew, Earl McKissick; along with many other nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 655 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC  28586.
