One dead in Bath house fire

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at about 1 a.m. Beaufort County Communications received a 911 call reporting a house fire at 201 Brookshire Drive in Bath, NC. During telephone contact with the caller, Communicators learned that an unidentified man was still in the home while an unidentified woman was able to escape. Members of the Bath, Pinetown and Bunyan Volunteer Fire Departments along with, Beaufort County EMS and Beaufort County Emergency Management Personnel all responded to the scene and found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Investigators, along with Investigators from Beaufort County Emergency Management, the N.C. State Office of the Fire Marshall and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and began the task of recovering the remains of the 51-year-old man believed to be Dwight Hamilton of 201 Brookshire Drive. Hamilton’s 82-year-old mother was able to safely escape to a neighbor’s house.
Currently the cause of the fire is undetermined. No foul play is suspected.
Hamilton’s remains will be sent to the N.C. Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death.
