Mr. Louis Elbert Hopkins, age 83, a resident of Belhaven, died Wednesday July 20, 2022, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Pastor Eric Hill.  A private graveside will be held later at Tater Hole Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pickett Voliva, Richard Voliva, Lee Fulford, Lee Hopkins, Shawn Hopkins, and Michael Richardson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Hopkins and Patrick Jordan.

The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.

Mr. Hopkins was born in Beaufort County on May 14, 1939, son of the late Jasper William Hopkins and the late Hattie Elizabeth Fulford.  He loved the water and that lured him to the Tugboat industry and at the time of his retirement with American Maritime Officers he had obtained the level of Engineer.  On October 26, 1996, he married the former Belinda Sue Blaylock who survives.  Along with his Tugboat career he and his wife owned Buddies Seafood.  Mr. Hopkins loved working, boats, and being on the water.

Surviving along with his wife: Belinda B. Hopkins of the home are his children: Beth Lee of Belhaven, Tina Marie Taylor (Gary McDonald) of Cove City, Betsy Hopkins (Patrick Jordan) of Belhaven, Chris Matthews (Deana) of Vanceboro, and Amanda Smithwick (Shaun) of Jamesville; sisters: Mary Cuthrell (James) of Pinetown, Cora Windley (Dalton) of Bath, and Thelma Foster of Washington; ten grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.  Mr. Hopkins was predeceased, along with his parents, by a son: Louis Christopher Hopkins; and brothers: Decater, Ray, and Curnie Hopkins.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd, Suite 200, Cary, NC  27513.
