The Washington Noon Rotary Club’s Monday weekly meeting at King Chicken featured guest speaker Gene Fox, pictured left with Club President Dr. David Loope.
Fox, the NC State Area Consumer Horticulture Agent and a weekly Washington Daily News columnist, addressed a number of garden-related questions and stressed the importance of grow plants which are native to Eastern North Carolina.

He also reported that 70% of the calls he receives from local residents concern lawn related-issues.

In other club news, the Washington Noon Rotary Club continues to finalize plans for the fast approaching 24th annual Smoke on the Water Whole Hog Barbecue Competition presented by Smithfield Foods. The Oct. 21-22 annual event at the Washington Waterfront features more than 60 barbecue contestants along with live entertainment, a chili contest, a 5k Fitness walk & run, a classic car show plus the opportunity to purchase delicious pulled BBQ pork fresh off the grill.
