Lloyd Preston Sloan Jr. passed away peacefully, on September 5, 2022, three weeks before his 97th birthday.
He was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Lloyd Preston Sloan Sr. and Myrtle Sloan.
Lloyd served in the Air Force during WWII and then attended Louisburg College, transferring to East Carolina College for his junior and senior years. After graduation, he moved to Washington, North Carolina and began an accounting career. Lloyd later became interested in the insurance business and established Sloan Insurance Agency, in 1950.
Upon his retirement in 1991, Lloyd left Washington and enjoyed living in many different areas of the south. Returning to Raleigh several years ago, he made many new friends at Abbotswood at Stonehenge, his place of residence. Lloyd looked forward to and enjoyed his weekly games of bridge and poker. He never met a crossword puzzle or sudoku book, he could not complete.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by a son Lloyd Preston Sloan III and his sister Betty Anne Hodge.
He is survived by son Thomas Michael Sloan, son Lewis Sloan (Sarah), grandsons Lewis Sloan Jr. and Ferrell Sloan.
The family would like to thank the staff of Abbotswood for their kindness and care.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
