Washington Noon Rotary Club member Phil Holloman (right) welcomed Beaufort County Public Health Director James Madson as the club’s Sept. 12 featured speaker.

Madson said Hepatitis A, Monkeypox and Covid-19 are the three most prevalent communicable diseases currently confronting North Carolina residents. He told the club the new Covid 19 bi-variant vaccination is now available by appointment at (252) 946-5778.

In other club news, members continue to collect non-perishable products to assist the Ukraine and continue to finalize plans for the fast approaching 24th annual Smoke on the Water Whole Hog BBQ Competition presented by Smithfield Foods.

The Oct. 21-22 annual event at the Washington Waterfront will feature more than 60 barbecue contestants along with live entertainment, a chili contest, a 5k Fitness Walk & Run, a classic car show plus the opportunity to purchase pulled pork fresh off the grill. All Smoke on the Water net proceeds (approx. $30K) will be returned to our community to help fund more than 25 local charities and non-profit organizations.

Each Monday the Washington Noon Rotary Club convenes for a 12-1 p.m. luncheon at the King Chicken Banquet Facility and guests are welcomed by calling Gail Baird at (571) 217-9235. Become a “difference maker” in our community and beyond by joining 70 local Noon Rotarians who “serve to change lives!” It all starts at “Imagine, Rotary!”
