ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (Oct. 10, 2022) — The public can now buy tickets to the Reviving the Supper Club Chef Series’ virtual event on Nov. 15 featuring chef Jamie Davis of The Hackney in Washington, N.C.; the event raises money to address food insecurity throughout Eastern North Carolina.

The chef series’ events raise money for Ripe For Revival, a Rocky Mount nonprofit with a fleet of pay-what-you-can mobile grocery stores serving food deserts in Beaufort, Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Pitt, Wake and Wilson counties. The Mobile Market is adding new counties to its route each week. One hundred percent of the event’s net proceeds will support the Mobile Markets’ food supply from local farmers.

During the virtual event, Davis will show guests how to cook a N.C. Angus Sirloin Steak served with White Sweetpotato Bisque and Lime Carolina Gold Rice along with special garnishes. Guests also will learn how to make — and enjoy — the Field of Dreams, a signature cocktail from The Hackney.

Here’s how the Chef Series works:

•Guests must reserve their tickets for the interactive, virtual cooking class and dinner by Nov. 5 at riperevival.com. Tickets cost $150 and the meal serves two people.
◦Additional meal kits to serve two diners can be purchased for $100 if guests want to turn this event into a larger gathering. Details on website.
•A box of N.C.-sourced ingredients, recipes, and instructions on how to log into the event are sent to guests’ homes beforehand. Shipping is available nationwide.
•Guests tune into a live stream at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 from the kitchen at The Hackney to cook along with Davis as he demonstrates how to prepare this meal.
•The event’s proceeds will we used to invest in the Mobile Market Program, funding the upfit of additional buses and the purchase of fresh produce and other local NC products to stock the pay-what-you-can mobile markets.

“We are excited to feature Chef Jamie Davis of The Hackney in Washington, N.C. for the upcoming virtual supper club,” said Will Kornegay, founder of Ripe Revival. “With the support of our event sponsors, Tidewater Grain Co. and the N.C. Sweetpotato Commission, Chef Jamie has prepared an exciting menu for guests to cook in the comfort of their home. The Reviving the Supper Club Chef Series proceeds’ benefit the Ripe For Revival Mobile Market Program. The pay-what-you-can Mobile Market allows communities to support communities and neighbors to support neighbors. Guests are not only enjoying a fun cooking class, but they are also supporting our mission to bridge the gap between farm excess and food access.”

The Ripe for Revival fleet of mobile grocery markets is the brainchild of Kornegay of Ripe Revival, a multi-faceted North Carolina produce company that aims to revive communities through food while supporting local and regional producers and striving to eliminate food waste. Kornegay’s Ripe Revival businesses are vital to creating economies of scale that help support the nonprofit’s endeavors. In the last year, the nonprofit has purchased four transit buses to convert into mobile grocery stores stocked with fresh and frozen N.C.-grown fruits, vegetables, and meats. Since June 2022, the Mobile Market has distributed more than 4,000 pounds of food to those experiencing food insecurity in eastern North Carolina. Over the past few years, Ripe Revival has played a role in serving thousands of families and hundreds of nonprofits by facilitating more than 4 million pounds of produce to fight food insecurity.

Through the Mobile Market program, they expect to continue increasing numbers like this. To learn more and support the nonprofit, go to riperevival.com.
