Washington and Southside will host first round matches in the state soccer tournament Monday.

The Seahawks (16-4) are the fifth seed and will take on #28 Clover Garden (3-14-1) of Burlington at 7p.m. If Southside advances, they will host the winner of #12 East Wake Academy and #21 Bear Grass Charter Thursday.

“We are pleased to have home field advantage for the first round and potentially the second,” coach Jay Petty said. “We didn’t anticipate being quite as high as it is, but we’ll take it. We’re still improving and hope to have a good end to the season.”

Washington (17-4) is the 13th seed and will entertain Eastern Plains Conference foe #19 North Pitt (12-6-2) at 6 p.m. The Pack shut out the Panthers twice by 2-0 scores during the regular season. The winner faces the #4 Clinton/#29 East Duplin winner Thursday. EPC regular season and defending East champion Greene Central is the seventh seed.

“I thought we deserved a higher ranking, but we have to beat the best teams in the state to advance no matter who we play,” WHS coach Jim Kozuch said. “We’ve had a great season so far, and our guys are excited that the playoffs are here.”
