All three county football teams won their last regular season game on Senior Night with solid performances from seniors and underclassmen.

  1. Marcus Clayton-the Northside senior tailback came back from two weeks in the concussion protocol with 155 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the Panthers 54-8 rout of Pamlico County. Clayton broke off scoring runs of 40 and 42 yards to put Northside (6-4) ahead early. The Panthers piled up 378 yards rushing.

  1. Brian Salinas-Southside’s freshman fullback stole some of the seniors thunder with 130 yards and a touchdown on eight carries in the Seahawks 47-6 romp over Jones Sr. His scoring run was an eight-yarder and he had several carries for more than 15 yards.

  1. Gabe Davis-Washington’s sophomore linebacker was around the ball often enough to make 17 tackles and sack the Ayden-Grifton quarterback once in the Pam Pack’s 12-6 home victory.

Best of the rest: Northside: Carson Clinkscales scored two touchdowns on runs of 20 and 30 yards against Pamlico County. Fullback Jamie Corprew returned from an ankle injury with 87 yards on 12 carries, while freshman Sincere Columbus had 79 yards and scored a touchdown. Chase Tomani was 6-7 on extra points. Senior Elijah Holloway caught Northside’s only pass for 27 yards and made five tackles, including two for a loss. Freshman Malachi Moore had six tackles, one for loss, Max Vansant contributed five stops, Jayvian O’Neal and Nick Roberts had a tackle for loss and Kasey Alligood intercepted a pass as the Panthers held Pamlico to 38 yards rushing and 42 total yards.

Southside: Zion Corey gained 71 yards rushing, 45 on a touchdown run. Tequon (Tater) Moore ran for 42 yards and a touchdown, caught a 23-yard scoring pass and had five tackles, including one for a loss. Quarterback Walker Hill was 5-8 for 98 yards and two touchdowns and freshman Luke Bullock completed his only pass for a six yard-touchdown to tight end Elgin Stilley. Darren (DJ) Joyner had a rushing and receiving touchdown, Manvonte Deloach caught three passes for 63 yards, Nolan Dixon intercepted a pass and Xavier Ham recovered a fumble.

Washington: Senior quarterback Chris Carter ran for 101 yards, while junior tailback Josh Gordan ran for a touchdown and threw to Gary Payne for another. Freshman Calek Smaw had 12 tackles and forced two fumbles.

Washington and Pungo Christian’s seasons are over, while Southside hosts Rocky Mount Prep and Northside entertains Weldon in first-round 1A state playoff action.
