The Major Reading Blount Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Wednesday, November 9. Regent Cathy Whichard led the members with the Opening Ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance and the American’s Creed. The President General’s Message was read by Cindy Batson.

Vice Regent Betsey Lee Hodges introduced the NC State Registrar, Candice Roth, to present a program on Supplemental Patriots. With the aid of handouts, Mrs. Roth led members through the research process of acquiring documentation for additional Patriots.

Committee reports were given by Laura Smithwick, The Flag; Gayle Hudson, Community Service Awards; and Phyllis Boyd, Conservation. Frances Schiller, Project Patriot chairperson, reported that 44 Christmas stockings had been filled by members for the overseas service personnel. Mrs. Schiller also reported that 77 cans of food were contributed for the Service for Veterans Thanksgiving Grocery Bag Project. The food will be delivered to the VA Center in Greenville.

Judy Fuller brought the group up to date on the Wreaths Across America campaign. The donations have been coming in steadily. There is still time to ask neighbors to make a contribution. The wreaths will be placed on graves at the New Bern National Cemetery on December 17, 2022. The public is welcome to attend and place wreaths on graves of veterans.

A call meeting will be held on December 14 at 10:00 for the presentation of the Community Service Award to a most deserving volunteer in Washington
