Preacher Edwin Lee Hill, age 95, a resident of Washington, died Monday, November 28, 2022, at his home.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2022, and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Peace Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2480 West Fifth Street, Washington.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the church.
Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Jacob Hill, Kirby Hill, Travis Scott, Eddie Congleton, Sammy Squires and Tim Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Brooks, Tommy Edwards, Timmy Frizzell, William Frizzell and Mike Beacham.
Preacher Hill was born in Camden, N.J. on March 31, 1927. He was the son of the late Willie Hubert Hill and Ida Gertrude Williams Hill. During and after World War II, Preacher Hill proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Atlanta from 1944-1948. Preacher Hill was ordained as a minister in 1962 and served as a minister for 59 years. He served the Fellowship FWB Church in Durham, Maranatha FWB Church in Greenville, Grifton FWB Church in Grifton, Zephyr Hills FWB Church in Asheville, Hyde Park FWB Church in Norfolk, VA, Virginia Beach FWB Church in Virginia Beach, Peace Chapel FWB Church in Washington, and Interim pastor at Mount Tabor FWB Church in Creswell. Preacher Hill served as the first treasurer of the N.C. Association of Free Will Baptists and the Pamlico Association of Free Will Baptists. He along with Rev. Tom Lilly was also instrumental in the founding of the Pamlico Association.
On June 30, 1951, he married the former Betty Taylor, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Ken Hill and his wife, Pat of Rougemont, Randy Hill and his wife, Kim of Cookeville, TN; six grandchildren, Nick Bracewell, Zachary Hill, Jacob Hill, Hannah Hill Bertram and her husband, Darren, Corrie Scott and husband, Travis, Kirby Hill and wife, Eden; three great grandchildren, Joshua Mull, Jaxson Scott and Sadie Scott and niece, Linda Stanley of Durham.
In addition to his parents Preacher Hill was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Hill and a sister, Helen Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2480 West Fifth Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
