The Down East Seniors Club held their February 1 meeting at the
Blind Center of NC in Washington. President Roy Whichard led the
meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America” and
the group pledged allegiance to the flag. Charles Smith gave the
opening prayer and Hackney provided factoids for the date in history.
One guest was present.
Hackney introduced K. T. Tippette as the speaker. Tippette told
about his experiences while riding his bicycle from our downtown
waterfront to the Oregon coast, a total of 3762 miles. The trip took
99 days and only four of them were rainy. He purposely chose routes
that were less well known in order to see more countryside and people.
He never felt threatened and received many kindnesses along the way.
He showed many photos that were made on the trip.
Curtis Brookshire won the 50/50 drawing.
Speaker for the February 8 meeting will be artist Sue Beck.
The Down East Seniors Club is a group of older men in the Washington
area who meet for fellowship and an interesting program Wednesdays
from 10:00 to 11:00 and make contributions to local charities.
The photo shows president Whichard (L) and treasurer Mark Eakes
presenting a $500 donation to The Blind Center executive director Tina
Jandrow. Last week’s photo showed Whichard and Eakes presenting a $500 donation to Eagle’s Wings executive director Ann-Marie Montague.
