BCCC congratulates Darragh Foundation scholarship recipients

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following Darragh Foundation Scholarship recipients. The Beaufort Promise Scholarship will continue for qualified students from Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties, and private scholarships such as those through the Darragh Foundation can help cover textbook costs. Other recipients will be announced throughout the spring.

Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation’s mission is “Helping to Improve the Lives of Others.” Scholarships are awarded to Continuing Education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded biannually and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need.

Shaunta Russell, 29, is a Grimesland resident and is in the esthetics program. She attended D.H. Conley High School. Russell currently works at Denso as a line operator and plans to business owner.

Aniyah Salley, 20, is a phlebotomy student and a Grimesland resident. She attended Southside High School, holds a certificate as a Pharmacy Technician, and plans to work in the medical field.

Dennis Sanders, 53, is a resident of Washington and is in the culinary skills program. He currently works at carryout by Chrislyn.

Gabrielle Smith, 20, is a resident of Washington and a manicure and nail technology student. Smith attended Washington High School.

Brianna Smithers, 23, is a resident of Greenville and a part of the natural hair care specialist program. Smithers attended Wayne Early College High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in General Biology. She currently works at the Good Hair Shop as an assistant.

Kinisha Staton, 42, is a commercial driver’s license (CDL) student and a Greenville resident. She attended Southwest High School and holds an associate’s degree. She currently works for Dee Transportation and plans to own a business.

Brittanie Thompson is a Swan Quarter resident and a phlebotomy student.

Janella Thompson, 26, is a resident of Washington. She attended Washington High School. Thompson currently works at Beaufort County ABC as a cashier.
