Mrs. Patricia Anne Collins Merritt, age 80, a resident of Washington, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Asbury Methodist Church, Washington, conducted by Rev. Jim Reed.   The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Mrs. Merritt was born in Petersburg, VA on January 20, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Charles Clarence Collins and Lelia Mae Daniels Collins.  Mrs. Merritt was a secretarial supervisor for NationsBank Trust Department in Richmond, VA.  Later, she  became a lay minister in the Methodist Church.  Mrs. Merritt attended Asbury Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, studying the Bible, and learning to play the banjo.

Mrs. Merritt was married to Frank Stephen Merritt, Sr., who survives.

Surviving with her husband are her daughter, Kimberly Kinzie (Scott) of Chester, VA; stepson, Frank Merritt, Jr. (Tina) of Blacksburg, VA; brother, Charles C. Collins, Jr. (Marie) of Long Beach, CA; sister, Shirley Eichler of Colonial Heights, VA; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Epes Brown III; and three sisters, Nancy Augburn, Betty Jo Bishop, and Norma Draucker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
