The Raiders will open the season on the road against Father Capdanno. Pungo Christian plays eight-man football instead of the normal 11. Head Coach Alex Sefton said they are a small team with 13 guys total. Sefton also said he has a great group of young men.

“This is a solid group,” Sefton said. “We have great senior leadership and the sophomores have been looking good so far. Our numbers are low, but this is a group that wants to prove themselves and win some games.”

Sefton said his key players are offensive tackle Braden Armstrong and running back Quayshawn Artis. Sefton hopes to have more success in his second season with Pungo Christian.

“We added a weight room this year which has been great to utilize so far,” Sefton said. “We’ve been able to build some muscle through the weight room that we couldn’t do previously.”

“That has helped build the foundation for the program. The goal this year is just to minimize our weaknesses and take each game one at a time.”

Sefton has loved the commitment he has seen from his guys so far and he hopes that the work his guys have put in will lead to success. “We are very focused on the first week. We want to attack each week and not overlook anybody. We are going to take things one week at a time and respect each team that we play.
