Fraud Alert: Residents get fake tax lien notices

Sheriff Scott Hammonds would like to make Beaufort County residents aware of a scam that has come to our attention.
Residents of Beaufort County have received fake Tax Lien notices from what appears to be Beaufort County which directs them to call a phone number to resolve the issue. This Notice of Tax Lien is not legitimate and should be disregarded.
The Beaufort County Tax Office does not collect money of any amount over the phone.
As a general rule you should never provide your information over the phone unless you are completely confident in the source you are providing the information too.
Sheriff Hammonds encourages you to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 252-946-0101.
