Not your average Sunday dinner

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After watching college football all day on Saturday, I thought about the times that Tracey fed the offensive linemen from East Carolina at home in Washington.  She teased the guys on Sunday afternoon by fixing them cornbread while we were watching film.  I made the mistake of telling them how good of a cook she was, and that was a mistake.

She made the mistake of asking them down the river to have dinner. I told her they would be six foot five inches and some were more than that and they would be weighing about 300 lbs. but she insisted.  She had BBQ chicken and all the trimmings.  She prepared only 25 half chickens for the group of offensive linemen. I went up to the table and all the BBQ chicken was gone and the trimmings.  They had consumed the chicken and the trimmings before I could get some dinner myself.  She was ready next time!

She had BBQ chicken and pulled pork ready for them, plus all the trimmings.  She had prepared 50 chickens and had neighbors who helped her plus her mom and Wendy Earle.  They had cake for dessert and all the trimmings that went along BBQ chicken and pulled pork. She had arrived at a solution that they wanted a home-cooked meal rather than the cafeteria food they were eating, not that they were so big.  They took food back to Greenville and some of them ate it all week.

This went on for three years and she was rewarded with game balls and she was a fixture in our locker room shortly after a game was over.  She got by with murder because the big guys ruled the roost and they appreciated her cooking for them.  Especially if they got to carry food home with them!  They appreciated the food and the hospitality she showed them and they even ask about her to this day!

We just got a new shipment of books in and Tracey wants to sell them! Not but $25.00 to pay S/H.  Just text me and I will send you one.  Do your part and let us promote Washington!!!

They were the best of times with the best of friends and in the best of places, Washington, N.C.  The Original Washington!
