Raiders hit the hardwood

Pungo Christian wrapped up a five game basketball homestand Tuesday with wins over Washington Montessori.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Eagles 63 – 7 to push their record to 2 – 3. Alden Taylor led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Sawyer added nine points and 14 boards. Julia Rouse flirted with a triple double, scoring 10 points, grabbing nine boards and dishing out six assists.

The boys rolled to a 85 – 34 victory to bump their record to 5 – 1. The Raiders jumped out to a 64 – 24 lead at the half and had a running clock for the entire second half. Maddox Lee scored 29 points on 69% shooting to pace the Raiders. Drew Van Staalduinen added 14 while Austin Garrish chipped in 12. Quay Artis dished out 9 assists in the win.

The Raiders have been busy to kick off the season. The boys are currently 5 – 1, highlighted with a PCA Tip Off Tournament Championship victory over Christ Covenant School and a victory over John Paul II. Against Christ Covenant, PCA jumped to a 46 – 9 lead at the half and rolled to a 68 – 25 win. Van Staalduinen led the Raiders with 16 points. Lee added 13 and Artis had 10 with eight assists. Against John Paul II, the Raiders outscored the Saints 21 – 7 in the fourth quarter to win 69 – 55. Lee poured in 28 points and grabbed seven boards. Artis chipped in 11 and dished out 10 assists. Bo Spencer added nine points and eight rebounds in the win.

The Lady Raiders have been back and forth to start the season. PCA defeated Terra Ceia Christian School in the opening round of the Tip Off Tournament before falling 50 – 35 in the championship game to Christ Covenant School. Ginny Pugh led the Raiders with 11 points. Taylor added 10 while Sawyer and Katie Baxter led the Raiders on the boards with 13 and 11 a piece. John Paul II cruised past the Raiders last Tuesday with a 65 – 23 win. Sawyer led the Raiders with nine points and 11 boards. Pugh chipped in eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.

 PCA will travel to Halifax Academy Thursday and host TEACH Homeschool Friday.
