Former Raider earns national honor

Former Pungo Christian Academy standout Reagan Stoop of the Bridgewater College volleyball team was announced as a 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III All-American Honorable Mention earlier this week.
Stoop, the 2023 AVCA Region Six Freshman of the Year and the 2023 ODAC Rookie of the Year, becomes the fourth player in program history to be chosen as an All-American honorable mention with the last being Rachel Gaston in 2019. The freshman had a stellar rookie campaign helping the Eagles to a 23-6 record, their best since 2007 and their first 20-win campaign since 2019.
The outside hitter recorded 447 kills on the year to place her third in the BC record book for single-season kills. This mark also pushed her to second place in the ODAC, while being tied for 16th in Division III. Stoop also claimed second in the conference and sits 13th in DIII with 522.0 total points. In addition, she averaged 4.97 points per set placing her 12th in the nation. Stoop was named the Division III National Player of the Week earlier in the season.
The Belhaven, N.C. native worked the defensive side of the court as well as she finished second on the team and 12th in the league with 360 digs. A versatile player Stoop ended with a kill/dig double in 17 matches this season and finished the season playing in all 105 sets across the entire 29-game slate for Bridgewater.
Prior to this selection, Stoop was awarded First Team All-ODAC, AVCA Region Six All-Region First Team and AVCA Region Six Freshman of the Year.
At PCA, the 6’0 outside hitter led the Raiders to consecutive state championships her junior and senior year. She was a four-time All-State, Tar Heel Independent Conference Player of the Year and tournament Player of the Year award winner and holds PCA’s career record for kills, service points and aces.
