Sally Elizabeth Myers Pruden, a native daughter of a Washington, N.C. family once known for its Main St. flower shop, died on Nov. 19 at Duke Medical Center.
She was 69 years old.
The youngest of three children to John Gray Blount Myers, II and Helen Davis Myers, she was born in Washington on Sept. 15, 1954. She attended the city’s public schools and East Carolina University and held a variety of jobs throughout her life, including a role helping her mother operate Myers Florist, a fixture in Washington from 1945 to 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Pruden Dyer, son-in-law William Taylor Dyer, grandson Harrison Scott Dyer, and her brother, John Gray Blount Myers, III. Her sister, Marcia Myers Vincent, preceded her in death in 2003. She was married to Edmund Jordan Pruden, III from 1981 to 2002.
Her family remembers her raucous sense of humor, her enjoyment of visits to the Outer Banks, and her deep love of shared experiences with family and friends. Although her final years were spent in declining health, she never lost her fondness for a good joke and a laugh.
Her extended family includes a nephew and three nieces, as well as their children. The Myers family plans to hold a memorial gathering at a later date.
