Senior Emaleigh Cherry, junior Madison Scheffler and sophomore Chole Black are the Northside representatives on the Coastal Plains 1A/2A All-Conference volleyball team.

The Panthers finished 8-2, good for second in the league behind Pamlico County with both losses to the Hurricanes. Northside was 14-9 overall and made it to the second round of the 1A state playoffs.

“Emaleigh brought hard defense, leadership and she hustled. When a teammate was having a hard time, she helped give advice about coverage, hitting, or whatever it was,” coach Michelle Leathers said. “Chloe brought strong will, hustle and humbleness. She was the one that got us going and she did what it took to set the hitters up to get good hits. She reminds me of (former players) Jessica Foster and Paige Sawyer. Madison brought hard hits and leadership. She didn’t have much to say, but she did a lot on the court to make sure we were successful.”

Leathers said this years’ squad played together well and credits the three for being a big part of that mentality.

“They worked hard, hustled and put the team first,” she said. “They wanted everyone to succeed. When they made a mistake, they kept their heads up, refocused and reassured the team and their coach they would get it right the next time.”

League champion Pamlico County had five selections, including Player of the Year Naomi Hill and Coach of the Year April Rose.
