Preparation Reminders

The primary hazards of this approaching storm includes:

  • The possibility of severe storms, capable of producing damaging winds and isolated tornados between 4 and 9pm this afternoon.
  • Localized coastal flooding that will impact low lying areas and roadways between noon and midnight. (Especially for communities along the Pungo River.)

Please take time now to prepare and plan for the potential impacts associated with these hazards. Preparation and planning efforts should include:

  • Have arrangements for temporary housing in place in case you need to evacuate your residence during the storm. This could include a family member, friend, or neighbor’s house as well as local hotels / motels. Do not rely on the availability of publicly opened shelters for this plan. Identify an emergency contact outside of the impacted region who can help you as needed.
  • Prepare your emergency supply kit. This should include a food and water supply, medicine supply, emergency power sources, safety and personal items, and important documents.
  • Have a plan for power outages. – Have flashlights readily available. Ensure that your phones are fully charged. Have a battery-operated device capable of monitoring local media outlets and / or receiving weather warnings. Make sure you have extra batteries available for your devices.
  • Avoid flooded areas. Do not attempt to drive on flooded roads. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”
  • Don’t forget about your pets. – Ensure that your pets have food, water and a sheltered place to protect them from the potential impacts of this storm.

As always, thank you all for what you do to keep Beaufort County informed, prepared and safe.
