It’s impossible to pitch any better in a high school softball game than Washington junior left-hander Emma Orr did in Friday night’s 6-0 home victory over East Carteret.

She pitched a perfect game. Perfect as in striking out all 21 batters without walking or hitting a batter. Perfect as in no Mariner batter put the ball in play; no pop ups, no groundouts, no foul outs. Just strikeouts.

Orr became the sixth pitcher in the history of high school softball in North Carolina to accomplish the feat and helped her own cause with a double and two runs batted in.

“Emma was extremely focused and efficient with her (103) pitches and that’s the best she’s pitched in her three seasons here,” coach Brad Horton said. “She’s had three shutouts in four games and has only given up two runs total.
She’s matured a great deal this year and it shows on the mound.”

Seniors Mica Lilly and Peyton Youmans had three hits each, while Orr, Addison Miller and Alani Hyatt had two as the Pack (4-0) collected 13 total.

East Carteret is 1-2 for the season.
