Otto “Ottie” Florschutz, son of Otto and Nancy Florschutz of Washington, departed mortality on November 20, 2023 at his home in Wrangell, Alaska.  Ottie, a graduate of Washington High School’s class of 1976, chose a life of adventure that began after he became a machinist when he hitchhiked across the U.S. and ultimately became a commercial fisherman in Alaska. He loved the challenges of his life there and was a valued member of every community of which he was a part.

Ottie is survived by his parents, his beloved wife, Christina, and his four children, Max, Adeline, Jon, and Ben. He also leaves behind four grandchildren as well as three sisters, Monica Florschutz Burns (William), Angela Florschutz Thompkins (Joseph), and Julie Florschutz Joyner (Richard), as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ottie was predeceased by his sister, Teresa Florschutz.

A celebration of Ottie’s life will be held on Friday, April 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodmen of the World Building at 185 Cherry Lane, Washington. Please feel free to share a memory or a story about Ottie as we remember him together.
