With the heavy rain at the end of last week, it was a short week for Pungo Christian Academy teams with Tuesday being their last day of competition before Easter Break.

Softball traveled to John Paul II in Greenville, soccer hosted Albemarle School and golf traveled to Valley Pine Country Club in Lasker.

The Lady Raiders softball team found themselves down 3 – 1 going into the top of the third before outscoring the Lady Saints 15 – 3 over the next four innings to win their eighth consecutive game 16 – 6. PCA has won 13 games in a row dating back to last season and has outscored their opponents 103 – 22 so far this year. Pungo will have a home/home series with Northeast Academy next week before facing a grueling six game stretch to finish the season. The Lady Raiders (8-0) will face 2A powerhouses Faith Christian, Wayne Christian and Rocky Mount Academy and 1A forces Cape Fear Christian and Lawrence Academy.

The girls soccer team used a five goal first half to run away with a 7 – 0 victory over Albemarle School. Sophomore Mia Paniagua netted two first half goals to lead the Lady Raiders. Julia Rouse and Katie Baxter each found the back of the net and had two assists in the win. Reagan Walker, Brooklyn Bowes and Autumn Gibbs also scored for Pungo. Gibbs and Emily Copes combined to shut out to Lady Colts in goal with each player playing one half in the net. PCA is 4 – 2 on the season and is on a four game winning streak. The Lady Raiders host Terra Ceia next week then travel to Ridgecroft School and Oakwood School. A win over Ridgecroft would clinch PCA’s third consecutive TIC regular season title in the programs third year of existence. The rest of their scheduled is highlighted with a trip to Faith Christian and home matches with Northside and Crossroads Christian, the defending 1A State Champion.

In the boys golf match, freshman Luke Alligood led PCA with a nine hole score of 54. Seniors Drew Van Staalduinen and Maddox Lee shot a 57 and 58 to round out the Raiders scoring. The Raiders are currently fourth in conference standing and will be back in action Tuesday at Occano Country Club in Merry Hill.
