The construction of a roundabout at the Douglas Crossroads intersection in Beaufort County will require a temporary traffic shift starting Monday morning, April 8.

The travel lanes will shift slightly north from the existing pattern. The change will also eliminate the turn lanes on U.S. 264 to reduce it to a two-lane road.

This traffic pattern will last a couple of months, and it will be the first of several traffic shifts over the course of the project, anticipated to be completed by the fall.
Drivers should be aware of the temporary shift, slow down and be alert to construction workers and law enforcement in the area.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is transforming the U.S. 264 and N.C. 32 intersection into a roundabout. The department builds roundabouts to improve safety and traffic flow. To watch a video and learn more about these types of intersections, visit this webpage.
