Raiders win big to start the week

Pungo Christian Academy’s spring sports season resumed after Easter break on Monday. Softball and Baseball hosted Northeast Academy while Soccer hosted Terra Ceia Christian School.

Soccer: Julia Rouse netted a goal with just over five minutes to play in the first half for a 1-0 lead. The Knights nearly scored an equalizer with seconds to play, but the shot went wide left and the Raiders took a 1 – 0 lead at the break. Brooklyn Bowes put the Raiders up 2 – 0 with a goal after a perfect cross from Rouse. Katie Baxter made it 3 – 0 with a goal from just outside the 18 to set the final margin. Autumn Gibbs had seven saves in goal for PCA. The Lady Raiders travel to Ridgecroft School and Oakwood School to finish out the week. PCA is now 5 – 2 on the season and riding a five game win streak.

Softball: Pungo scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and ran away with their ninth straight victory, 16 – 1, against Northeast Academy. Emma Hanna, EllaKate Hanna and Melanie Rutledge all had two hits, combined for five RBI and each hit a triple in the win. Lily Keech and Sara Gibbs also had hits for the Lady Raiders. Anna Stoop picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings, giving up one hit and striking out three. Keech picked up the save with no runs and two K’s in the final inning. Pungo will travel to Northeast Academy and Faith Christian School later this week.

Baseball: The Raiders scored 16 runs in three innings to take down the visiting Eagles by a score of 16 – 1. Evan Woolard led the Raiders at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Bo Spencer and McKinney Waters each had a hit and two RBI. The Raiders had nine hits and 10 RBI in the win. Freshman Marshall Ricks picked up the win on the mound, giving up two hits and one earned run while striking out four. The Raiders are 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the Tar Heel Independent Conference and will travel to Northeast Academy and Oakwood School to close out the week.
