The Washington High School girls soccer team is humming along on all cylinders as the season enters the second half.
The Pam Pack (9-0, 3-0) remained undefeated and on top of the Eastern Plains Conference after a 6-0 home rout of West Craven Monday night.

Junior striker Jamie Perez scored five goals for the Pack, including four of the first five for a 5-0 halftime lead.
“We changed our offensive formation by putting more people in the forward position,” coach Kendall Cox said. “That helps spread out the defense so they can’t double and triple team her, so she has more open space in which to operate. She’s our leading scorer and had another great game tonight.”

The Pack has reeled off six straight shutouts and has seven in the first nine games. They have outscored their opponents 58-3, with all three goals allowed against Northeastern of Elizabeth City in the second and third game of the season.

“Eileen Escalona has been outstanding in goal for us and we have good players in front of her on defense,” Cox said. “She directs our defense to shift whichever way the ball is coming down the field and the defenders have done a good job of communicating where they need to be.”

The schedule gets a little tougher the rest of the way, with a trip to second place Farmville Central looing Friday and a home match up with third place North Pitt Tuesday.

“We have versatile players, who can play offense and defense, which helps when I need to switch them back and forth,” Cox said. “We have girls with speed and our bench has played well. Leah Chavez and Angelee Higurera Dominguez are good ball distributors, which puts us in good position to score. Things are going well right now and we’re excited to see how the rest of the season goes.”
