John Enoch Smith Sr., 75, a resident of Chocowinity, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on April 17, 2024, surrounded by his beloved dog, Mia, and his family.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 20th at Haw Branch Church. The family will receive friends at his home and at the home of his daughter.

Born and raised in Chocowinity, NC, to Velma Lee Clark and William Albert Smith, John was a retired machinist and carpenter. He loved being outside, whether mowing grass, driving a tractor or working in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Larry Gray, Gene, Virgil, and Debbie Ann; and stepson, Jimmie Wayne Stokesberry.

In addition to his wife, Betty Stewart Smith, John is survived by his son, John Enoch “Buddy”

Smith Jr. and wife, Kimberly, of Vanceboro; daughter, Melissa Smith Moore, the apple of his eye, and husband, Christopher, of Chocowinity; stepdaughter, Kathy Dixon and husband Allen, of Vanceboro; grandchildren, Austin (Dorothy) and Dustin Dixon, Jarret and Mallory Nobles, and Dillon Smith; great-grandchildren, Jason and Braxton Nobles, and Madison and Mason Dixon; and siblings, Earsell Holland, Sylvia Ingalls (G.L.), and Nell Godfrey (James).
