PCA update: Baxter leads Raiders attack

Girls Soccer: PCA completed their second consecutive undefeated conference season with an 8-0 win over Albemarle School. Katie Baxter had a hat trick and two assists. Julia Rouse added two goals and one assist while Bailey Hodges, Ava Hayes Cox and Brooklyn Bowes all added second half goals in the win. The victory also marked the Raiders 25th consecutive win over a conference opponent.

Friday, PCA hosted the defending 1A state champions Crossroads Christian for senior day as Katie Baxter, Reagan Walker, Ginny Pugh and Autumn Gibbs were recognized. Baxter netted a goal midway through the first half to give the Raiders a 1 – 0 advantage going into the break. In the second half, the Colts were called for a handball in the box, setting up Baxter with a golden opportunity to put the Raiders up 2 – 0. The Crossroads keeper thought otherwise and saved the PK, keeping things the same on the scoreboard. The Lady Colts had several good looks on goal, but Gibbs denied any attempt and shut out the visitors, 1-0, for the Raiders 11th win.

Monday the Raiders traveled to Ridgecroft School to take on Lawrence Academy in the opening round of the Tar Heel Independent Conference tournament. Baxter netted two first half goals and another in the second to pick up her second hat trick in three games. The Warriors scored in the final minutes, but the Lady Raiders won 3 – 1. Brooklyn Bowes added an assist.

PCA is 12 – 2 and will meet the winner of Ridgecroft School and Albemarle School in the TIC championship on Wednesday at Ridgecroft School.

Softball: The Lady Raiders lost a home/home series with Lawrence Academy to close out the regular season. The Lady Warriors took both games, 12 – 2 and 9 – 5. Emma Hanna led the Raiders with three hits over the two games. Reese Blackman and Melanie Rutledge each had two while Joelie Pair and Lily Keech added one in the losses.

PCA is 11 – 3 and the second seed in this week’s TIC Tournament held at Ridgecroft School. PCA will took on Ridgecroft School Tuesday and would face Lawrence Academy on Thursday for the TIC Title.

Baseball: The Raiders traveled to Lawrence Academy and Kerr Vance Academy last week but were unable to come home with a win, dropping their season record to 9 – 7. Jackson Walker took the loss at Lawrence despite allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings. McKinney Waters led PCA with two hits against Kerr Vance Academy while Austin Garrish also added a hit. Evan Woolard picked up the loss on the mound, giving up three hits with three earned runs and six K’s in three innings of work.

Pungo is the two seed in this week’s TIC Tournament at Ridgecroft School. The Raiders face the host school on Wednesday and with a win, will play either Lawrence Academy or Northeast Academy Thursday.

Golf: The PCA boys season is over after competing in the TIC Tournament held at Beechwood Country Club last week. Drew Van Staalduinen shot a 98 while Harbor Pair shot a 102. Maddox Lee rounded out the scoring with a 115 as the Raiders finished in fourth place.
