John Griekspoor, age 81 a resident of Belhaven, died May 8, 2024, at his home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Covenant United Reformed Church in Pantego with Rev. Scott Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven.

John was born on May 14, 1942, in Beaufort County, to the late Jacobus and Trena Oldenkamp Griekspoor. John was a master carpenter, and a member of Covenant United Reform Church. He attended Terra Ceia Christian School and Pantego High School. On August 10, 1963, married Judith VanEssendelft Griekspoor, who survives. John enjoyed woodworking, yard work, and gardening. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a counselor for the boy’s club in the church, and a mentor to many people who asked him for advice. John loved to cook and was famous for his cinnamon rolls. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony, Ted, Bill, Joe and Marion Griekspoor and sister Marie Dehoog.

Survivors include, in addition to his wife, sons, Marty Griekspoor (Kathy) of Vanceboro, Timothy Griekspoor (Nichole) of Bath and James Griekspoor (Tina) of Washington, daughter Sherry Keech (Albert) of Pinetown, grandchildren, Christopher Griekspoor (Alisha), Kimberly Mills (Daniel), Jason Keech (April), Cameron Keech, Blaine Griekspoor, Nicholas Griekspoor (Sarah), Hayden Griekspoor, Matthew Greene and Destinie Boyd, great grandchildren, Lydia Keech, Hallie Keech, Kiya Moseley, Bricen Moseley, Ainsley Keech and Brinley Keech.
