From Washington Yacht & Country Club:

For more than 45 year’s the Washington Yacht and Country Club (WYCC) has hosted the club’s annual Summerfest Golf Tournament. Summerfest 2024 will be held May 31 – June 2, 2024. The Summerfest event has become one of Eastern North Carolina’s longest standing golf events, bringing golfers from cities such as Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charlotte and Greenville N.C. to Virginia Beach and Richmond, VA.  Summerfest is an opportunity for golfers of all skill levels to enjoy WYCC’s 18-hole championship course, during a weekend of outstanding food and entertainment.

The annual three-day event hosts both a ladies and men’s tournament and is open to WYCC members, guests, and non-members.  Currently, there are more than 80 registered players in the 2024 Summerfest tournament and room for additional players.   Top prizes are awarded to the flight champions for both the ladies and men’s tournaments.  The ladies tournament starts Friday, May 31, and the men’s tournament runs Saturday through Sunday, June 1-2.

With views of Broad Creek and the spectacular marina, the Summerfest evening social events have been one of the highlights of the three-day event that all participants and guests enjoy each year.  All attendees are encouraged to join other participants for cocktails, dinner, and dancing with music from DJ Marty Knightengale on Friday night, and the big band sound of the Special Occasion Band along with dinner and cocktails on Saturday night.  For those who do not golf, social event tickets are available for all the evening social events at Summerfest.

Summerfest 2024 is hosted by WYCC with the support of many local sponsors such as The City of Washington, Carver Machine Works, Tideland EMC, B.E. Singleton & Sons, Flatlands Jessup Insurance Group, Lee Chevrolet, United Country Real Estate, Coca-Cola Bottling, Avalanche Motorsports and David’s Trash service.  Without the support of these sponsors the annual Summerfest event would not be possible.

About WYCC:

In 1949, the WYCC was the vision of several Washingtonians to have a club where friends and family could come together and dine, enjoy a game of golf, and keep their boats along the banks of Broad Creek, the lovely, natural harbor off the Pamlico River in eastern North Carolina.  The first clubhouse was built as a white wooden structure with wide porches facing east to catch the prevailing south easterlies of summer.  It was a lively spot with fine dining, golf, and a marina full of motor yachts, sailboats and run abouts. It was a place where kids learned to swim, couples to play golf and small boat sailing regattas were held.

The original wooden clubhouse was destroyed by fire in the late ‘60s. It was soon replaced by a more substantial modernist brick and glass club designed to overlook the marina to the east and the course to the west.  The golf course itself was expanded and sharpened to its now 18 championship-caliber challenging holes. A new swimming pool, tennis and pickle ball courts, more docks and three different dining areas have since been added to the property.

The vision for WYCC remains just as clear today as 75-years ago: The Washington Yacht and Country Club is where friends and family come together, dine together, play together, and celebrate the river together.  For more information visit www.wyccnc.com.
