Thirty BCCC students were inducted into the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society in a ceremony held on the BCCC campus April 2.

Those inducted include Shanna Andrews, Kristen Baker, Jackie Bielby, Brandon Bunch, Jonathan Bright, Brittany Daniels, Adrina “Dena” Douglas, Kasie Dunn, Scott Everette, Ashley Hall, Linda Harding,  Carolyn Heitman, Jessica Hilliard, Caitlyn Horton, Taylor Jackson, Robert Jones, Veronica Korman, Alishia McCullough, Joshua Meier, Angela Parker, Amanda Phelps, Jessica Roberson, Samara Romero, Amber Smith, Hillary Stringer, Kasey Tooley, William Wallace, Tammy Whitehurst, Latisha Wiggins, and Elizabeth Williams.

Gamma Beta Phi is an honor and service organization which has the following objectives: to recognize and encourage educational excellence; to promote the development of leadership ability and character in its members; and to foster, disseminate and improve education through appropriate service projects.

The GBP chapter at BCCC was chartered in 1975 under the leadership of Betty Cochran, BCCC’s arts and sciences division chairwoman at the time.

Membership is by invitation only. To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled, must have completed at least 13 semester hours of college work and must have a 3.3 grade-point average, among other membership criteria.

Recent and previous Gamma Beta Phi service projects at BCCC included participation in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge, support of Heifer International, co-sponsorship of the annual BCCC Job Fair and work at the Martin County site of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
