Southside clashed with the fifth-ranked 1-A team in the state on Friday night and struggled as the Seahawks fell 51-6 to Manteo.
Running back Rokeem Miller scored Southside’s lone touchdown on a 15-yard run but the big plays were few and far between for the Seahawks (2-4, 0-2) as they found themselves down 23-6 at halftime to the Redskins (5-0, 2-0).
“We have to be able to move the ball up the field. We did it at times but we have to be able to finish and we have to be able to tackle,” Southside coach DeWayne Kellum said. “Andrew Jones ran hard but he’s still learning to play. Rokeem had some big plays and Terrence Windley gave us a good effort tonight.”
Senior running back Johnnie Pender returned to action but could not stay on the field as the result of a back injury. Isaiah Moore added two catches for 60 yards in the loss.
The Seahawks will be back in action next Friday when it hosts No. 9 Plymouth.
