Iris Hassell Jones

Iris Hassell Jones, 84, long time Tyrrell County resident, who has recently resided on James Circle in Elizabeth City, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at her home after a recent illness.
Born in Pasquotank County, October 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Richard Iredell and Maud Hardy Hassell. She was married to Claud Jones who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jones spent her working years with The East Carolina Bank in customer service and retired in 1990. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter # 281 where she had served as Worthy Matron and was a life member. She was a member of Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service. Rev. Royce Reynolds and Rev. Steve Feehan will officiate. Interment will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are two daughters, Faye J. Starns and husband, Rick of Elizabeth City and Vickie J. Adkins of Kinston; four grandchildren, Jeanne Davis, James Simmons, Shannon Reynolds and husband, Hank and Josh Starns and wife, Heather; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Hair, Will Hair, Elle Wolfe, Tucker Reynolds, Sailor Reynolds and Cutter Reynolds.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ruben R. Hassell and Arthur Iredell Hassell; three sisters, Agnes H. Bunch Brickhouse, Nellie H. Godfrey and Victoria Hassell.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Joyce James, 2993  N.C. Highway 94-S, Columbia NC 27925 or Woodville Baptist Church, c/o Erline Wilson, 151 Woodville Road, Hertford NC 27944.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. and until the funeral hour on Tuesday.
