The Beaufort County Arts Council is giving the public a final opportunity to view its current Tricentennial Exhibit during an open house Sunday, Oct. 14, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The exhibit is currently on display in the gallery of the Washington Civic Center.
BCAC has curated the exhibit exclusively from items on loan from generous members of the community and individuals — a first for the arts council. According to BCAC staff, the exhibit has attracted a new and different audience to the Civic Center.
“I’ve noticed a genuine curiosity about this exhibit,” said Joey Toler, executive director of BCAC. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive and the suggestion that we need some kind of county history museum has been offered more than once.”
Toler thinks that idea is one that a dedicated and committed leader could take and run with.
“This exhibit only scratches the surface of what is out there,” said Toler.
The Sunday open house will be the last time the public can view the exhibit. After that, all items will be returned to their individual owners and put away again for safekeeping. In the meantime, normal gallery hours for the exhibit are Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The exhibit, as well as the open house, is free and open to the public.
