Sarah Victoria Roberson Manning died December 4, 2012. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 PM at Maple Grove Christian Church; burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
She was the daughter of the late George Eason Roberson and Victoria Griffin. She attended the Farm Life School and graduated Valedictorian of her class. She attended Atlantic Christian College.
She was bookkeeper for J.K. Hoyt’s in Washington, office manager for Williamston Package Mfg Company, Marvel Package Company, Atlas Plywood Corp and after which she was one of the owners and was secretary and treasurer of Williamston Plywood Corp.
In 1942 she married John Edwin Manning and he died in 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her three sisters Cora Lee Leggett, Vera Pearl Coltrain and Georgia Dean VanNortwick.
She is survived by one God child, Sarah Jane Taylor Guth of Franklin, PA, a brother-in-law Stewart VanNortwick of Williamston and the following nieces and nephews, Joseph Leggett of Williamston, Martha Victoria Taylor of Williamsburg, VA, Freddy Coltrain of Greenville, A.D. Coltrain of Williamston, Alice Coltrain of Williamston, Kay Coffin of Lewisville, IN, Victor VanNortwick of Williamston and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews and friend and caretaker Barbara Griffin. She was a member of Maple Grove Christian Church and was very active in circle activities as long as she was able. She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Captain of the Blue Beetle Surf Fishing Team. She loved fishing and was a good fishing woman. She also loved Ocracoke and spent as much time there as possible.
She taught cake decorating at Martin Community College Williamston and Windsor. She has been confined to a wheel chair for the past 10 years but was able to live at home and participate in community and family activities.
