Mr. Richard Allen Doiel, age 60, a resident of 300 Nelson Farm Road, Chocowinity, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2007, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Rev. John Shackleford and Rev. Gregg Hornbuckle. Burial will follow in the Edward Christian Church Cemetery, Edward.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Chris Edwards, Bill Armstead, Jimmy Manning, Danny Manning, Paul Avery and Billy J. Avery. Thomas Garris and Timothy Avery will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Doiel was born in Anaheim, California, on June 15, 1947. He was the son of Tillie Kathleen Price Cagle, who survives and the late Howard Craven Cagle. Mr. Doiel attended Morehead City Schools. He was a retired commercial construction foreman. Later, Mr. Doiel worked as a long distance truck driver. He attended the Aurora Church of God as long as his health permitted.
On June 17, 1967, Mr. Doiel married the former Patsy Rose Avery, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his son, Michael Craven Doiel of Chocowinity; his daughter, Faith Michelle Doiel of Chocowinity; his grandson, Phillip Richard Alligood of Columbia, S.C.; and his sister, Denise Ann Meyers of Newport, N.C.
In addition to his father, Mr. Doiel was preceded in death by a sister, Paula Sherleen Shackleford.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2007, at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 300 Nelson Farm Road, Chocowinity.
