MAJOR READING BLOUNT
CHAPTER, NATIONAL SOCIETY, DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (DAR)

The Major Reading Blount Chapter of the DAR met on April 17, 2013 at the Brown Library, with Christine Ramon, Anita Fletcher as hostesses. The chapter welcomed their guest, Edith Jenkins.
After refreshments, Regent Johanna Huber called the meeting to order and led the Rituals, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, American’s Creed, Preamble to the Constitution, DAR pledge, and salute to the North Carolina flag. Susan McFarland gave the devotional. Christine Ramon’s centerpiece of American flags served as the “defense moment.”
Vice Regent Betsey Lee Hodges then introduced Jacob Searcy, who is an Extension Agent, Agriculture and Horticulture, at the Beaufort County Extension Office.  In line with the DAR’s emphasis on conservation, Mr. Searcy presented a program on composting in the backyard as a way to minimize yard waste and improve garden soil.
Ysobel Litchfield asked for volunteers to help organize and file newspaper articles on local individuals in the Brown Library’s genealogy room.
Regent Huber said that Colleen Lupton would be selecting books to donate on behalf of the chapter to the Brown Library in memory of chapter members Christine Hambleton and Anne Hunter Boone. Regent Huber collected greeting cards for the project to send them to veterans in VA facilities.  The meeting was adjourned by Regent Huber.
